Luray, Virginia
Around two hours from the city. Three cabins with hot tubs, 15 minutes from Shenandoah National Park.
The drive
Real routed times, not wishful ones — and the note under each is the part that actually decides your Friday.
Washington, DC
About 2 hours
93 miles
Clear roads. Leaving the city on a Friday afternoon can add an hour.
Arlington & Alexandria
Just under 2 hours
90 miles
You start west of the worst of it, which is worth about ten minutes.
Dulles & Loudoun
Under 2 hours
77 miles
The easiest run of any of these. Route 7 to 340 avoids I-66 entirely.
Routed to Luray in September 2026, without traffic.
Timing
Before 2pm, or after 7pm. The stretch in between is when I-66 and US-29 west out of the city are at their worst, and it is the difference between a two-hour drive and a three-hour one.
Leaving after dinner is better than it sounds. The last half hour along US-211 is quiet and dark and the valley opens up in front of you. Check-in is self-service and your access details arrive before you travel, so a 10pm arrival is no problem — nobody is waiting up for you.
Going back is the easier direction: Sunday traffic into DC is a fraction of Friday’s. One thing to plan around — check-out is 10am, which is earlier than a lot of places, so Sunday morning is a slow coffee rather than a lie-in.
The shape of it
Friday. Arrive late, light the fire pit, get in the hot tub. That is the whole evening and it is enough.
Saturday. Thornton Gap is 15 minutes away, which means you can be on Skyline Drive before the overlooks fill. A half day in the park, an afternoon in Luray or on the river, dinner in town.
Sunday. Check-out is 10am, so it is an early start, and you are home by lunch. One night from DC is mostly driving — two is the trip that actually works, and the rate per night drops when you stay longer.

Questions
About 93 miles — roughly two hours from the District in clear conditions, and just under two from Arlington or Alexandria. Friday afternoons out of the city routinely add an hour, so for a Friday-evening departure plan on closer to three.
Before 2pm or after 7pm. The window in between is the worst of it on I-66 and US-29. Leaving after dinner is genuinely pleasant — the last stretch along US-211 is quiet, and check-in is self-service, so a late arrival is no problem. Note that check-out is 10am, which is earlier than some places, so plan Sunday morning around it.
Honestly, not really. By the time you have driven out Friday evening and need to leave by mid-morning Sunday, a single night is mostly driving. Two nights is the trip that works, and our rates drop at longer stays.
Yes. There is no public transport to the cabins and the park, the caverns and the town are all short drives. This is a driving trip.
Shenandoah National Park's Thornton Gap entrance is about 15 minutes away, Luray Caverns and downtown Luray about 10, and the Shenandoah River is close enough for a morning on the water. Plenty of guests also do very little, which the hot tubs are designed to support.
You book straight with us rather than through a listing site, and our longer-stay and early-booking discounts apply automatically at checkout. Rates, fees and tax are all shown before you pay — there is nothing added at the end.
