The experience

The Turtle was designed for exactly two people. Every detail serves one purpose: bringing you closer together. Floor-to-ceiling glass frames the forest, a dramatic picture window sits behind the king bed, and the whole cabin feels like a deep breath.

Evenings move from the hot tub to the fire table to the observation deck at the top of the property, where a swinging bench and a propane fire bowl sit under nothing but sky. It is the best stargazing spot on the hill.

Ten minutes away are downtown Luray, Luray Caverns and the Shenandoah River. Fifteen minutes puts you at the Thornton Gap entrance to Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive.

“This place was beautiful to stay at and the house was very clean and had everything you need. The TV was logged in to many streaming apps which was very convenient. The hot tub was amazing at night and had a great view of the sky from it. The thing I would stress the most would be to make sure you have an all wheel drive vehicle as the driveway gets very steep and uneven at parts which can make it difficult to get up to even on days where the weather is good. Overall this place is amazing though.”

“The Turtle cabin is nestled in a very quiet environment, and there are lots of activities to perform in the surroundings with the Shenandoah National Park and the Luray caverns which are great places to visit. You just need to get prepared for your arrival as the access road is steep and uneven when it rains.”

Before you book

Getting here is a mountain drive: The cabins sit up a maintained gravel mountain road, and it is part of what keeps the views to yourselves. Four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive is strongly recommended. We clear the road after snow. Not sure about your car? Just ask; we answer this one all the time.
There is one outdoor camera: One exterior camera on the front edge of the cabin, covering the driveway directly in front of the cabin. There are no cameras inside the cabin, and none in or facing the hot tub, the decks or any private outdoor space. The full terms are in the rental agreement.

No. The Turtle is a one-bedroom cabin with a single king bed and is designed for two guests only.

Is the hot tub private?

Yes. The hot tub is on The Turtle's own deck and is for your use only during your stay.

How private is the cabin?

The Turtle sits on its own lot, the most private on the property, with forest on all sides. The other cabins are on adjacent lots with their own decks and driveways.

How do I book The Turtle?

Is there a minimum stay at The Turtle?

One night for arrivals Sunday to Thursday. Stays that start on a Friday or Saturday are two nights or more, unless a single night is all that is free between two bookings.

Check-in is from 3:00 PM and check-out is by 10:00 AM. Check-in is self-service; you'll receive your access details and directions before arrival.

Can we bring a dog to The Turtle?

Yes. Up to 2 pets for a $25 cleaning fee per stay, the same for one pet or two. Declare them at checkout. Service animals are never charged the fee.
